Vancouver

I have recently returned from my three week trip to Vancouver; whilst there I tried to visit as many of the sights and attractions as possible. I have listed some of the highlights of my trip in this post with accompanying photos to help anyone interested in doing a similar trip or for anyone just interested in my thoughts and comments about Vancouver, Enjoy!

1. Gastown
Visiting historic Gastown was high on my list of things to do and after a little searching I found the world famous steam powered clock and continued on to find the statue of “Gassy Jack”. Gastown is one of the oldest parts of Vancouver and has lots of unique shops and great restaurants such as the atmospheric and charming “Old Spaghetti Factory”.

2. Stanley Park
Stanley park covers over 400 hectares and is one of the largest parks in Vancouver. The sea wall completely surrounds Stanley Park and is a great way to explore the park, Watch out for the raccoons at the top of the park as they will do anything to get your lunch!

3. Capilano Suspension bridge
The Suspension bridge is just a short bus journey away from downtown Vancouver and soars above a huge canyon; great views and lots of fun especially when the bridge sways with the wind.

4. Granville Island
Granville Island is a great place to spend a day with lots of boutique arts and crafts shops combined with an amazing indoor market with everything from fresh produce to an amazing patisserie selection, authentic German and even Thai dishes.

5. Lions Gate bridge
Linking downtown Vancouver with North Vancouver the Lions Gate bridge is over 364ft high and gives you a great view of Stanley Park and the harbor.

6. Grouse Mountain & The Grouse Grind
Grouse Mountain is one of the closest mountains to Downtown Vancouver and is over 1,198ft high. Two cable cars ferry passengers to the peak whilst the more adventurous can hike the 2.9km Grouse Grind; It took me about 2 hours to reach the top whilst the average time is about an hour.

7. Horseshoe Bay
Once a sleepy fishing village Horseshoe bay is now a busy ferry port linking Vancouver with Vancouver Island but still manages to retain its charm and is a great place to relax by the waterside watching the boats come and go.

8. Lynn Canyon park
Lynn Canyon boasts an amazing suspension bridge rivaling the one at Capilano and has lots of beautiful trails and walks through the canyon; lots with great views of the waterfalls and rapids.
